Fourteen Missouri Southern student-athletes receive MIAA academic honor

Eight members of the Missouri Southern football team and six from the Lady Lions volleyball team have been named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for their respective sports.

From the Southern football squad, senior Robert Plumley (Springfield, Mo.), juniors Ryan Burpo (Oronogo, Mo.), Josh Combs (West Fork, Ark.), Josh Highley (Nevada, Mo.) and Tim Pherigo (Nicoma Park, Okla.), and sophomores Brian Fleetwood (Ava, Mo.), Dan Stanley (Webb City, Mo.) and Craig Winfrey (Bluejacket, Okla.).

Women's volleyball players selected for the honor included Lady Lions senior Shannon Schultz (Oklahoma City, Okla.), juniors Jenny Ford (Tulsa, Okla.), Lindsey Mason (Edmond, Okla.), Kym Mutert (Washington, Mo.) and Jessie Puszewski (Papillion, Neb.) and sophomore Sara Jaynes (Springfield, Mo.).

To be eligible for the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer session; and be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility. Student-athletes inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification are not eligible.
