  Patrick Johnson is in his first year as an assistant coach for the Lions after spending three years as a coach in California.

Johnson coached two years at Claremont (Calif.) High school, one year as an assistant and the other as a head coach and was also a history teacher at the school. He also coached at Claremont (Calif.) McKenna College.

Johnson played four seasons for coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University where he was originally recruited to play baseball. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Johnson played baseball at Grady High School where he was a pitcher and first basemen. He originally came to Duke as a scholarship baseball player, before moving to the court where he played for four seasons.

Johnson and his wife, Meaghan Leon, were married in July of 2007. Meaghan is also a 2005 graduate of Duke where she was a member of the cross country and track and field teams.

The couple resides in Joplin.
