De’Von Lockett begins his second season with the Lions and will help coach the defensive backs. Under Lockett’s watchful eye, the Lion defensive back field ranked first for the second-straight season last year in pass defense and both Justin Cowper and Skyler Vandiver were All-MIAA selections.

Prior to Southern, Lockett started his coaching career as a student assistant at Northwestern State University in the spring of 2003. In the fall of 2003 he became an assistant coach at his alma mater Franklin Senior High School in Franklin, LA, coaching football, basketball, and served as the head boy’s track coach. Lockett help the football team reach the 3A playoff each year and earned a district championship in track in field while reaching the state meet in multiple events. In the fall of 2005, Lockett became a graduate assistant at Bethel (Tenn.) College coaching Wide receivers. In his stint at Bethel, he had five receivers to make all-conference, while earning his Masters of Education. Lockett was chosen to coach in the first NAIA Senior Bowl game in Platte City, MO.

In 2007, Lockett returned back to Franklin High as an assistant football and track coach winning the first father & son indoor and outdoor State Championship in Track & Field at Franklin High.

A player at Northwestern State, Lockett was a four-year letter winner at wide receiver. Lockett earned a Bachelors in Psychology from Northwestern State.
