Schneider earns player of the week honor

Four Missouri Southern State University spring sports student-athletes, including sophomore softball pitcher Amy Schneider (Garland, Texas), earned Wilson/MIAA Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, the MIAA announced.
Schneider extended her scoreless innings streak to 13.1 last week as the Lions blanked Pittsburg State, 1-0, on just three hits in game one of a March 23 doubleheader. In game two, Schneider pitched four innings in relief and allowed just three hits before Southern fell 4-3 in 10 innings after the international tiebreaker rule was invoked.
PSU came into the doubleheader batting .327, but managed just one extra-base hit off Scheider, a two-out, second-inning triple.
With Tuesday’s game one win over Southwest Baptist, Schneider extended her scoreless innings streak to 19.2 innings before the Lady Bearcats tallied an unearned run in the seventh. Schneider has allowed just one earned run in her last 37.1 innings of work -- a 0.19 ERA.
For the season, Schneider is 10-6 with a 2.04 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 99.1 innings.
She is a graduate of South Garland High School and transferred to MSSU from Collin County (Texas) Community College.
Others to win the award on March 31 were senior Sheryl Posch (Parsons, Kan.) in women’s tennis, sophomore pole vaulter Matt Campbell (Worthington, Ind.) in men’s track & field, and junior thrower Danee Jones (Clayton, Mo.) in women’s track & field.
