Woolard named Wilson/MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week

Sophomore shortstop/outfielder Alese Woolard (Claremore, Okla./Oolagah HS) was named Wilson/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Hitter of the Week on Tuesday for her performance since the start of the season.

Woolard, a 5-5 sophomore, batted .442 (23-of-52) and had an on-base percentage of .525 (32-of-61) as she reached base safely in 15 of Southern's first 16 games.

She had nine hits in her first 14 at-bats of the season (.643), getting three hits in each game of a doubleheader at Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 18 and in the second game of a twinbill at Northeastern State (Okla.) Feb. 22. Three of her hits in that run were triples. Woolard drove in three runs and scored five as well.

She drew three walks, stole a base and scored twice against Southwest Baptist at the MSSC Lady Lion/Ott Foods Classic on Friday (March 7) and was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored the next day against Northwest Missouri State.

Woolard has amassed six triples this season to go with four doubles. She is 3-for-3 stealing bases and has fanned only four times in 61 trips to the plate.
