Woolard named to second-team all-region squad

Missouri Southern outfielder/shortstop Alese Woolard (Claremore, Okla./Oolagah HS) was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-North Central Region squad, the NFCA announced Thursday.

Woolard, a 5-5 sophomore, was named to the second-team as a utility player.

In 2003, Woolard led the Lady Lions many offensive categories, including batting average (.358), runs (37), hits (57) and triples (10). She also led the team in slugging (.553), on-base percentage (.427) and total bases (88) and finished second on the squad with 11 doubles and 12 walks. Her 10 triples this season was the fourth-most by a Lady Lion in history.

She currently ranks in the top 10 in six categories among Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association leaders, including a No. 1 ranking in triples, a second-place ranking in runs scored, and a No. 5 ranking in batting average.

Earlier this week, Woolard was named a second-team All-MIAA pick as an outfielder, as well.

In 2003, the Lady Lions finished with a 23-25 overall record and an 8-10 conference mark. The team made its 14th consecutive appearance in the MIAA Postseason Tournament and set school records for fielding percentage (.970) and fewest errors in a season (46).
