Horn takes home the title in the 2009 MIAA Decathlon

Missouri Southern senior Phillip Horn won the pole vault, discus and the hurdles in the second day of the 2009 MIAA Multis and picked up the title in the decathlon, scoring an NCAA provisional 6,664 points and besting his nearest opponent by more than 200 points. Lions freshman Lisa Vengels placed 13th in the heptathlon.

Horn was second after day one of the meet after winning both the long and high jump and placing third in two of the other three events. Horn also placed third in the javelin and shot put in day two and sixth in the 1,500m to take home the title.

Vengels finished third in the high jump in day one and 13th overall, scoring 3,725 points in the event.

Horn earned the Lions 10 points in this year's 2009 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held at Fred G. Hughes Stadium this Saturday and Sunday. Central Missouri placed two athletes in the top six and lead the Lions by one point early on in the standings.

Events this Saturday will begin at 1 pm and will begin at noon on Sunday.
