FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wilson wins pole vault with provisional height Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern senior pole vaulter Seager Wilson secured a provisional height and took home the title in the pole vault in the final day of the 2009 Missouri Southern Fazolis/Baymont Inn Invitational in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. Wilson vaulted to a height of 15 feet, seven inches to win the event. Corey Shumate and Phillip Horn finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the event. Seth Hackney and Kyle Hancock were second and third in the shot put with Hackney recording a distance of 51 feet eight and a half inches. Corey Reynolds placed fourth on fewest misses in the high jump with a height of six feet, six and three quarter inches, while Chris Brown and Horn were sixth and seventh, respectively. Horn also placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.26, missing a provisional by just one hundredth of a second. Nicco Mendes and Taylor McClelland were fifth and sixth in the triple jump, while Derek Wright placed eighth in the mile invitational. Kevin Wright was fourth in the 600 yard run and Rustan Crockett placed 17th in the 800 meter. Andrew Wright and Michael LaCurtis placed 15th and 28th, respectively in the 400m. On the women's side, both Erin Steffens and Emilie Mieseler earned provisional distances today in the shot put, placing fourth and fifth, respectively in the event. Steffens threw 43 feet, five and three quarter inches, while Mieseler hit 43 feet, five and a quarter inch. Cortney Vie and Nicole Green placed 9th and 12th, respectively in the shot. Ciara Lipsey cleared 11 feet, three and three quarter inches and placed second in the pole vault, while Channell Lloyd placed fifth in the 60m hurdles. Lisa Vengels narrowly missed a provisional height in the high jump and finished third, while Gayla Booth was ninth. Kimi Shank won the mile invitational, while Olga Bulgarova and Silvia Pineda placed 3rd and 5th. Cyarra Prince and Lloyd were 6th and 7th in the triple jump, while Alex Close placed 24th in the 400m. Kaitlin Wilkinson and Pineda placed 6th and 8th, respectively in the 800m, while Shannan Borgard and Camille Brown were 4th and 12th in the 600 yard run. The Lions will be back in action next weekend traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the Razorback Invitational. |
