Charlotte, NC.
-- Marcus Walton and Jacob Williams earned All-American status with third place finishes in both the 800m and pole vault, respectively, in the final day of the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Walton broke his own school record of a day ago, running a 1:50.04 to finish third in the finals of the 800m. The time was less than a second off the winner, and was his own personal best in his final race as a Lion.

Williams set a new season high and finished third in the finals of the pole vault today. He vaulted a height of 16 feet, ten and three quarter inches, the highest mark of any Southern vaulter this season.

Russell Ellis finished tenth with a height of 15 feet, 11 inches, while Seager Wilson failed to hit on his opening height.

Earlier in the meet, Jessica Selby earned her first two outdoor All-American honors with fourth place finishes in both the hammer throw and the shot put. Selby 47 feet 11 and a quarter inches in the shot put yesterday, while heaving a distance of 177 feet, eight inches in the hammer throw on Friday. Freshman sprinter Danielle Oliver ran a 12.33 in the 100 meter dash, but failed to qualify for the finals in the event.

Freshman Corey Reynolds finished 10th in the high jump with a height of six foot eight and three quarter inches, while the 4x400m relay team ran a race just a second off their own school record, but failed to qualify for the finals.

This meet ends a successful season for the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field programs at Southern. In the fall, both the men and women captured cross country team titles, and the men brought that success indoors in the spring, winning the MIAA indoor title. Selby was named the indoor and outdoor Regional Field Athlete of the Year by the Track and Field Coaches and this upcoming fall, Southern will be in the spotlight, hosting the 2007 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships.
