Reynolds qualifies in high jump at Lionbacker Last Chance

-- Missouri Southern freshman high jumper Corey Reynolds won the high jump and provisionally qualified in the event with a height of six feet nine and three quarter inches as the Lions competed in a rain-shortened Lionbacker Last Chance meet tonight in Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

Reynolds, a native of Neosho, defeated Pittsburg State's Greg Clawson by nearly four inches. In the meet's last event of the night, Russell Ellis finished third in the pole vault. Ellis finished with a height of 16 feet, two inches. This year's indoor champion, Grand Valley State's Bryant Wilson, automatically qualified and won the event tonight with a height of 17 feet, one and a half inches. Former Southern vaulter Kyle Rutledge finished second with a height of 16 feet, six and three quarters of an inch.

Dustin Dixon, Brennon Benkert, Tyler Chiartano and Rustan Crockett finished fifth through eighth in the 800m run, while Daniel Oldenettel won the 400m.

Dustin Miller, Ryan Arthur and Derek Wright finished 1-3 in the 3000m steeplechase. John Isenman and Lucas Clark were fourth and fifth in the hammer throw, while Adam Sims was third in the discus.

In women's action, Ashley Bunch and Kari Fritchie were first and second in the 3000m run. Erica Culver finished sixth in the pole vault, while Jessie Wood and Channell Lloyd were second and third in the triple jump. Wood added a fourth place finish in the high jump. Emilie Mieseler and Jessica Self were second and third in the hammer, while Self, Erin Steffens and Courtney Vie were second, fifth and sixth in the discus. Steffens added a second place finish in the shot put.

The Lions will be back in action this weekend competing in the Emporia State Last Chance Meet.
