FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions sign decathlete from Coffeyville Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern men's track and field coach Tom Rutledge has announced the signing of Phillip Horn to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and participate in track and field beginning the spring of 2008. Horn is a 6'1, 180 pound decathlete from Coffeyville Community College. A graduate of Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Horn lettered in track, as well as football and basketball. Horn competed in the hurdles and pole vault for coach Rich Giesen at FKHS where he lettered all four years. He holds the school record in the 300m hurdles at 39.26 and started four years at running back for the Tornados. An All-Southeastern Kansas Conference performer in football, he was third in the state meet in the hurdles. An All-American at Coffeyville CC, Horn finished seventh in the national meet in the decathlon. "I think Phillip is a phenomenal athlete," Rutledge said. "He can do a lot of things and I think he has the possibility to be an All-American in both the decathlon and pole vault. He is a very well-rounded athlete and young man and will fill some voids that we desperately need filled. I feel very confident that he will help us immensely."
