FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mile relay team sets school record at Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invite Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern track and field teams fared well, despite the rainy and wet conditions at Hughes Stadium today as they competed in the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad MSSU Invitational. The men's mile relay team of Ryan McPeak, Tyler Chiartano, TJ Britton and Marcus Walton set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet with a time of 3:15.48. Walton and Britton blazed to a 1-2 finish in the 800m, both provisionally qualifying in the event. Walton finished with a 1:51.14 and Britton followed just behind with a 1:51.70. McPeak won the 400m with a time of 50:09, while Derek Wright was sixth in the event at 52:82. Dustin Dixon won the 1500m with a time of 3:58.19, while Nick Heberle was third (tops among d-2) in the 3000m steeple chase with a time of 10:07.90. Brennan Benkert and Ryan Arthur were 1-2 in the 5000m. Eric Bearden and Adam Sims were 3-4 in the shot put, while John Isenman and Lucas Clark were 3-5 in the Hammer. Seager Wilson won the pole vault with a height of 16 feet, while Russell Ellis was tied for third at 15 feet, seven inches. Corey Reynolds just missed a provisional in the high jump, but won the event with a height of six feet eight and three quarters of an inch. In women's action, Jessica Selby won the hammer and the shot with provisionals in both. She threw a distance of 175 feet, four inches in the hammer, while hitting a mark of 48 feet, two and a half inches in the shot put. Jessica Self and Courtney Vie were fourth and fifth in the hammer, while Self, Vie and Emilie Miesler finished 3-4-5 in the shot. Camile Brown was fourth in the 200m, and Stacy Borgard finished fourth in the 400m. Sarah Wallace was fourth in the 800m. Kari Fritchie and Victoria Kline were third and sixth, respectively in the 1500m, while Ashley Bunch won the 3000m with a time of 10:27.87. The 4x100m relay team won with a time of 48.65, while Jessie Wood and Jestine Hayes were 2-3 in the triple jump. Channell Lloyd and Hayes finished 3-5 in the long jump. The women will send two athletes to the MIAA Heptathlon/Decathlon in Emporia this week, before gearing up for the MIAA Championships in Fort Hays on May 6-7.
