Selby, McPeak collect MIAA weekly award

JOPLIN, Mo - Missouri Southern track & field student-athletes Jessica Selby and Ryan McPeak earned Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday (March 21) for their performances at the Pittsburg State Open last week.

Selby, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Galena, Mo., won the hammer throw with a provisional qualifying mark for nationals at the PSU Open last Thursday (March 16).

She had a winning throw of 169 feet, 3 inches -- bettering her personal best by nine feet and more than 10 feet past the provisional standard.

Selby, an indoor Division II All-American in the shot put, is a graduate of Reeds Spring (Mo.) High School.

McPeak, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound freshman from Joplin, Mo., won the 400 meters at the PSU Open.

In less than ideal conditions, he posted a winning time of 50.05 seconds. He also placed fifth in the 200 meters with a clocking of 22.54.

McPeak is a graduate of College Heights Christian School.
