Castle, Walton named MIAA Athletes of the Week
Two Missouri Southern State University track & field student-athletes,
Marcus Walton and Iashia Castle, were named Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association Athletes of the Week Monday (Feb. 6), the
conference announced.
Walton, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound junior
from Potosi, Mo., had a provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run
at the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational last weekend (Feb. 3-4).
He placed second to Durrell Williams of Oklahoma Baptist by 0.04
seconds, with a clocking of 1 minute, 54.26 seconds. It is the
third-fastest indoor time for the event in school history.
Walton is a graduate of Potosi High School, and transferred to MSSU from
Rend Lake (Ill.) College.
Castle, a 5-foot-5 senior from Kansas
City, Mo., had three of the Lions' six women's event wins at the MSSU
Radio Shack Invitational last weekend (Feb. 3-4).
She improved her provisional qualification in the triple jump with her
leap of 38 feet, 6 inches, and added a provisional mark in the long jump
with a winning distance of 18-1.75. Castle also won the 400 meters in
59.12 seconds.
Castle is a graduate of Hickman Mills High School.
