Missouri Southern/Radio Shack Open set for Friday, Saturday

JOPLIN, Mo. - Representatives from 30 colleges and universities will be competing Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3-4) at the Missouri Southern State University/Radio Shack Open indoor track & field meet, to be held at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on the MSSU campus.

Action gets under way Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. with field events. A handful of running events are held Friday night, starting at 8 p.m.

The meet continues Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with more field events. The running events Saturday begin at 3 p.m.

The field includes teams from four other Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schools, including Central Missouri State, Emporia State, Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist. More NCAA Division II competition will come from the likes of Dallas Baptist, Central Arkansas, Harding (Ark.) and Missouri-Rolla.

Competitors from NCAA Division I schools Arkansas and Missouri State are also expected to be on hand.

Results from Friday and Saturday will be available on the Missouri Southern athletics website at www.mssu.edu/athletics at the conclusion of action both days.

The meet marks the first of two home indoor meets this season for the Lions. On Feb. 24-25, Southern hosts the MIAA Indoor Championships.

On Sunday (Feb. 5), Missouri Southern serves as host for the 2006 Baymont Inn/Fazoli's High School Open. Results from that meet will be available on the internet Monday (Feb. 6).
