Campbell named MIAA Athlete of the Week
Men’s track & field junior earns honor for second time

Missouri Southern track & field student-athlete Matt Campbell (Worthington, Ind.) was named a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 15).

Campbell, a 5-foot-8, 150-pound junior, improved his automatic qualifying mark for nationals in the pole vault with his effort at the University of Arkansas Powered by Tyson Invitational last weekend (Feb. 11-12).

He is just the second Southern vaulter to clear 17 feet indoors, placing second and breaking the school record with a mark of 17 feet, 1.75 inches. Former indoor national champion Seth Isringhausen set the previous school record (17-00.75) in 2002.

Campbell, who also won the athlete of the week honor on Jan. 19, is a graduate of Switz City (Ind.)-White River Valley High School, and transferred to MSSU from Neosho County (Kan.) Community College.

Campbell and the Lions, both the men’s and women’s teams, are scheduled to continue their 2005 indoor seasons on Saturday at the Sooner Indoor Invitational at the University of Oklahoma.
