Holmstrom named MIAA Athlete of the Week

Lions senior collects league’s first weekly honor of 2003

Missouri Southern senior cross country athlete Magnus Holmstrom (Inga, Finland/Karis Billnas HS) was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Athlete of the Week today for the sport of men’s cross country.

Holmstrom, a 6-2 senior, placed fifth at the University of Arkansas’ Fayetteville Invitational on Saturday, finishing the 4.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 31.61 seconds. Southern finished third in the three-team meet, that included NCAA Division I schools Arkansas and Tulsa.

The Lions finished third in the men’s meet with a total of 63 points. Arkansas won with 21, followed by Tulsa with 49. Southern had three runners in the top 13 of the race.
