Five Lions earn
All-America honors BOSTON, Mass. -- Five members of the Missouri Southern State University indoor track & field teams earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday (March 10-11). The Missouri Southern men, who finished ninth in the final overall team standings with 23 points, had three All-America finishers including a pair in the pole vault. The Lions got another national championship from senior Matt Campbell (Worthington, Ind.), who won the event on misses at 16 feet, 8 inches. Senior Kyle Rutledge (Joplin, Mo.) captured his second indoor All-America award, finishing as national runner-up in the event. Campbell was the NCAA-II indoor national runner-up in 2005 and was the 2005 NCAA-II outdoor national pole vault champion. Junior Marcus Walton (Potosi, Mo.) grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.74. Walton was just over half a second off the winning pace in the event. On the women's side, the Lions finished tied for 38th overall with three points. Sophomore Jessica Selby (Galena, Mo.) was seventh in the shot put with her mark of 46 feet, 7.25 inches. It was the second indoor All-America award for Selby, who finished fourth nationally in the event as a freshman in 2005. Senior Iashia Castle (Kansas City, Mo.), making her first trip to the indoor national championships, placed eighth in the triple jump with her mark of 38-7.50. Sophomore Alison Walker (West Plains, Mo.) finished fifth in her heat of the 800-meter run and just missed out on making the finals. Walker finished her heat in 2:14.82. The Missouri Southern men also had a relay team competing in Boston. The team of sophomore Kyle Davis (Potosi, Mo.), senior Kyler Rushing (Sarcoxie, Mo.), Walton and freshman Brett Musser (St. Joseph, Mo.) finished 10th with a time of 10:12.22. NCAA-II Indoor
