Lions finish in fourth at Northeastern State Classic

Broken Arrow, Okla.
- The Missouri Southern golf team finished in fourth place, just 16 strokes behind first place Central Missouri at the 11th Annual Northeastern State Golf Classic today at Emerald Green GC in Broken Arrow.

The Lions shot a 304 in day one and sat in second place going into today's round and shot a 307 to finish tied for fourth with Grand Canyon University. Central Missouri shot a 298 and a 297 to take the team title by 11 strokes over second place Northeastern State. St. Mary's of Texas was third followed by Southern and Grand Canyon, Our Lady of the Lake, Washburn, Southwest Baptist, Missouri Western, Truman, Pittsburg State, Ouachita Baptist, Lincoln, Fort Hays and East Central. Central Missouri's Justin Yoder and NSU's Josh Boswell finished the two rounds tied at two under par, but Boswell won the playoff to take home the individual title. 

Lions' junior Stephen Boyd (Springdale, Ark.) improved by two strokes over his day one total of 77 to shoot a 75 and finished tied for 11th with a 152. Junior Jamie Voegelli (Muskogee, Okla.) was one stroke back at 153 and tied for 16th, while sophomore Andy Hogenmiller (Washington, Mo.) shot a two-day 154 to finish tied for 20th.

Senior David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) and sophomore Jared Essary (Cape Fair, Mo.) both shot a 156, while freshman Hunter Mobely (Rogers, Ark.) shot a 160.

The Lions will be back at it in two weeks with the second MIAA points event of the season when they travel to Fort Hays to participate in the Fort Hays Invitational at Smokey Hills Country Club.
