FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 15, 2009 Lions take third at Truman in first MIAA points event Final Stats Kirksville, Mo. - The Missouri Southern golf team shot an opening round 297 and a 300 today to finish in third place at the 2009 Bulldog Classic, hosted by Truman State University at Kirksville Country Club. Sophomore Andy Hogenmiller (Washington, Mo.) was even par (71) in round one and four over in round two to finish tied for 13th with a four over, 146. Sophomore Jared Essary (Cape Fair, Mo.) improved five strokes from his day one 76 to shoot an even par 71 and finish tied for 16th with a 147. Junior Stephen Boyd (Springdale, Ark.) improved four strokes in day two to finish six-over at 148 and tied for 20th, while sophomore Jamie Voegeli (Muskogee, Okla.) was seven over for the tournament and tied for 23rd at 149. Freshman Hunter Mobley (Rogers, Ark.), playing as an individual, shot a 74/71 to finish with a nine-over 151, while senior David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) had a two-day 154 and junior Seve Smith (Webb City, Mo.) finished with a 157. Central Missouri won the team title with an eight under par team score in day two and defeated second-place Washburn by eight strokes. Southern was third, followed by Southwest Baptist, Missouri Western, Truman, Maryville, Rockhurst, Quincy and Fort Hays to round out the top ten. Truman's 'B' team finished 11th, followed by Pittsburg State and Culver Stockton. A pair of Washburn golfers had to go extra holes to decide the individual champion as Dustin Yeager edged out teammate Riley Piles in a playoff for the tournament medalist title. Southern will be back in action next week when the Lions travel to Broken Arrow, Okla. to compete in the Northeastern State Invitational at Emerald Falls Golf Course. |
