FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 9, 2009 Lions finish in sixth at Missouri Intercollegiate Final Stats Sunrise Beach, Mo. - The Missouri Southern golf team was fourth after the first day's two rounds at this year's Missouri Intercollegiate, but rainy conditions led to rough play and the Lions finished sixth after the final 18 holes today at The Club at Porto Cima. The Lions, led by sophomore Andy Hogenmiller (Washington, Mo.) shot 298 as a team in both opening 18-hole rounds yesterday. Hogenmiller shot a two over 74 in the first 18, but blazed to a five under 67 in the afternoon round. Hogenmiller finished his round today with a 77 and tied for fourth place overall. Junior Jamie Voegelli (Muskogee, Okla.) shot an opening round 75, followed by a 73 and a 74 to finish six over for the tournament and tied for eighth place. Junior Seve Smith (Webb City, Mo.) finished tied for 33rd with a 234, while senior David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) was 37th with a 237. Senior Taylor Griffith (Carthage, Mo.) shot a three-round 256. Central Missouri shot a three-round 880 to finish 12 strokes in front of second place Drury (892). Lindenwood, William Woods and Rockhurst round out the top five, while Southern, Missouri-St. Louis, Missouri Baptist, Missouri Western and Southwest Baptist round out the top 10. Lincoln and Evangel tied for 11th, while Truman, Maryville, Fontbonne and William Jewell round out the teams. Rockhurst's Clarke Fry shot a blistering 11 under for the tournament to defeat Central Missouri's Justin Yoder by six strokes (-5). The Lions will be back in action next Monday when they travel to Kirksville to compete in the Truman State Invitational at Kirksville Country Club. |
