FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 22, 2008 Lions finish third at MIAA Tournament Final Results Branson, Mo. - Ben Perry (Kansas City, Mo.) shot a final round, two-under 69 and the Missouri Southern golf team placed third at the 2008 MIAA Golf Championships at Branson Creek GC in Branson, Mo. Perry rebounded from an opening 77 to shoot 74 in round two and a 69 today to finish seven over (220) for the tournament. Seve Smith (Webb City, Mo.) Corey Clingan (Carl Junction, Mo.) and David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) finished 17th and 18th, respectively. Jamie Voegelli (Muskogee, Okla.) shot a 235 and finished 22nd, while Adam Nelson (Parsons, Kan.) was tied for 30th with a 240. Washburn completed the sweep of the MIAA schedule with its fifth victory in conference play this season. The Ichabods shot an 884 to defeat Central Missouri (901) by 17 strokes. Southern was third at 917, while Missouri Western (929), Southwest Baptist (943), Fort Hays (947), Truman (959) and Pittsburg State (969) round out this year's field. The Ichabod's Ryan Deutsch finished tied after 72 holes with Central Missouri's Justin Yoder at four over for the tournament, but earned the individual medalist in the first hole of the tiebreaker. Truman's Chris Kovach finished third at five over and was named the MIAA's Freshman of the Year, while Perry was fourth and Washburn's Matt Lazzo finished fifth at eight over. Eddy and Smith both were named All-MIAA for their performances throughout the season. The Lions will now wait to see what seed they'll be in this upcoming NCAA Division II Super Regional held in Findlay, Ohio on May 5-7. |
