FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 7, 2008 Perry and Lions win rain-shortened Kansas City Intercollegiate First Round Results Kansas City, Mo. - Ben Perry (Kansas City, Mo.) shot a school record, six under 66 to win by three strokes and the Missouri Southern golf team took its first team title this season at the rain-shortened Kansas City Intercollegiate at Swope Memorial GC. Rain cancelled today's second and final round. Perry shot a 32 on the front and a 34 on the back to finish six under for the tournament, leading SBU's Justin Sellin by three strokes. The 66 (six under par) is the lowest round for a Southern golfer since the fall of 2006 when Tommy Clifford shot a 67 (five under) in the final round at Northeastern State. Perry, also shot a 67 (four under) in the fall of 2005 at Central Missouri. It is also the lowest total score since April 5, 1998 when Chad Smith shot a 66 (five under) at Central Missouri. Seve Smith (Webb City, Mo.) shot an opening round two under, 70 to finish tied for third. Jamie Voegeli (Muskogee, Okla.), playing as an individual, shot a 74, while Adam Nelson (Parsons, Kan.) and Corey Clingan (Carl Junciton, Mo.) both shot 77. Chris Needham (Springdale, Ark.) shot a 79, while David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) shot a first-round 80. The Lions shot a two-over 290 and defeated second place Central Missouri (294) by four strokes. Missouri Western (295) was third and Lincoln (296) was fourth, while Fort Hays and Southwest Baptist were tied at 299 for fifth. |
