Eddy/Smith lead Lions to second place showing at Western

- David Eddy (Carl Junction, Mo.) and Seve Smith (Webb City, Mo.) finished tied for third overall and the Missouri Southern golf team placed second at the Missouri Western Invitational today at Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph.

The Lions shot a second round 291, one day after coming in with a 290 to finish five strokes over as a team and in second place. Southern was 13 strokes behind Washburn, which for the second-straight day, finished with a four under par team score to take the tournament handily. Western was third, two strokes behind Southern, followed by Central Missouri, Fort Hays, Southwest Baptist, Pittsburg State, Rockhurst and Truman.

Smith shot a second round 72, while Eddy carded a 74 and the pair finished tied for third at one under for the tournament. Adam Nelson (Parsons, Kan.) bettered his first round score of 77 by four strokes to card a 73 and finish tied for 17th with teammate Ben Perry (Kansas City, Mo.) at six over. Perry improved by six strokes on day two going from a 78 to a 72.

Jamie Voegeli (Muskogee, Okla.) shot a two-day 153 to finish tied for 29th, while Corey Clingan (Carl Junction, Mo.) was two strokes behind Voegeli at 155. Chris Needham (Springdale, Ark.) finished with a two-day 164.

Washburn's Matt Lazzo equaled his first round 69 with another three under score today to win the tournament by two strokes over teammate Matt Ewald. Eddy and Smith were tied for third, while Washburn's John Robbins and Dustin Yaeger, as well as Missouri Western's Derek Thorne all finished tied for fifth at even par.

The Lions will be back in action next week as they travel to Kansas City to take part in the Kansas City Invitational at Swope Memorial GC.
