FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 7, 2006 Missouri Southern Golf will host 2007 NCAA Division II Super Regional JOPLIN, Mo. - Missouri Southern has been selected as the host school for this year s NCAA Division II Men s Golf Super Regional. The event will be held May 7-9 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin. We couldn t be more pleased, said Lions golf coach Kevin Greim. To be able to host an event like this at a facility like Twin Hills is quite an honor. It says a lot about the reputation of Twin that the regional selection committee would choose us over the other bids. Twin Hills is very excited to host the Super-Regional, said Doug Adams, General Manager and Head Golf Professional at Twin Hills. The timing of the event should correspond with great course conditions. The players should find the course a very fair, but tough test, The Super Regional consists of the top eight teams from the Central and the Great Lakes Regions. The top five individuals in the region not on those teams selected will also participate in the event. In all, 90 golfers will tee it up during the tournament which begins with a practice round on May 6. While two regions compete at each Super Regional site, they do not necessarily compete against each other. Only the winning team from each region will make this year s national tournament to be hosted by Grand Valley State. The individual with the low tournament score not on a winning team will also make the national tournament. Greim said the reason for submitting a bid in the first place was easy. We felt like as much as we play Twin Hills and as well as we know the course, if we could somehow host the regional, we would have as good a chance as anyone to win it. So now we ve got it, and now we have to focus on playing well enough in the spring to be chosen to make the regional field. Then we ll take our chances from there. The event is one that requires planning, organization, and help. We ll definitely be calling on our friends to help us out with staffing for this event, said Greim. We ll have to count on Lionbackers, Twin Hills members, and people in the Joplin golfing community to pull this off. It will be a lot of work, but when it all comes together, it s a really neat event to host. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in volunteering to work the event should contact Kevin Greim at 625-3075.
