Lions sign St. Louis area golfer

Joplin, Mo.
- Missouri Southern golf coach Kevin Greim has announced the signing of Washington (Mo.) High School golfer Andy Hogenmiller to a National Letter of Intent to attend Southern and participate in golf beginning in the Fall of 2008.

Hogenmiller has played for three years for coach Greg Dunigan and was the No. 1 golfer the past two seasons. A varsity performer for all four years for the Blue Jays, Hogenmiller was a state qualifier in both his sophomore and junior seasons, with his senior year yet to be completed.

This past summer, in 13 rounds, Hogenmiller carried an average of 72.15 per round, winning one event and finishing in the top three in five others. He finished 21st at the Missouri State Championship this past year as a junior.

This summer he placed second at the Westfield PGA Junior Section Championship shooting a 72-69. He followed that up with a third place finish at the American Junior Golfers Association Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship in Springfield shooting a 71-70-72 to finish three under for the event. He finished second at two straight tournaments, before taking home the championship at the PJGT - Aberdeen in October with a 72-69 finish.

"Andy is a young man whose game is rapidly improving," Greim said. "He had a great summer, finishing in the top three in six summer events. He had some other D2 interest and we feel very fortunate to get this commitment. I think he projects to being someone whose game can transition to the college level very easily and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do here."
