FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 3, 2007 Lions finish in fifth place at Drury Invitational Final Results Springfield, Mo. - After going into the clubhouse as the first round leader, the Missouri Southern golf team couldn't show the same magic it did yesterday and finished fifth overall at the Pasta House/Drury Invitational today at Rivercut Country Club in Springfield. The Lions shot a day one 288 to lead by one stroke, but a 308 in day two put the team in fifth place. Central Missouri was in third place with a 290 on day one and improved by a stroke in day two to finish at three over for the tournament, defeating second place Drury by five strokes. Washburn was third followed by Henderson State and Southern to round out the top five. Freshman Seve Smith had another solid round to finish tied for 8th place at two over. The Webb City native shot a one over 73 on both days. Corey Clingan had a 149, while David Eddy and Adam Nelson had a 150 and 151, respectively. Jamie Voegeli shot a 152, while Ben Perry finished with a 158. Central's Jon Wrast led from wire to wire to take home the individual title. He had a first round 68 and followed that up with a 72 today to finish four under for the tournament, one stroke in front of Drury's Tomas Hay. Henderson State's Ben Cruzen was third, while Washburn's Sam Wempe and Drury's Brandon Machicao were tied for fourth. The Lions will finish up the fall season with a trip to Hays, Kansas next week to compete in the Fort Hays State Invitational. |
