FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 25, 2007 Lions finish in fifth place at Northeastern State Classic Final Results Salpulpa, Okla. - Led by Seve Smith's second round 69, the Missouri Southern golf team improved by three strokes and finished fifth at the Northeastern State Fall Classic. Round three was cancelled today due to heavy rain. Smith shot a four over 75 in round one, but rebounded with a three under 69 to finish at two over for the tournament, tied for 12th place. Ben Perry, playing as an individual, shot even par in round one and a 75 in round two to finish with a four over 146, tied for 20th. Corey Clingan was tied for 23rd with a five over 147, while Adam Nelson shot a six over 148 to finish tied for 28th with teammate Jamie Voegeli. David Eddy shot a 151. Washburn took the team and individual title for the second straight week as the Ichabods shot a six under 562 for the tournament, led by freshman Matt Salome's nine under 133. Southeastern Oklahoma's Brad Aycock finished second at four under, while Washburn's Matt Lazzo was third at three under. St. Mary's Jimmy Willingham and Northeastern State's Brady Wood finished tied for fourth at one under. Southeastern Oklahoma shot a five over 573 to finish second in the team standings. Northeastern State (+9), Southwestern Oklahoma (+13) and Southern (+19) round out the top five team scores. The Lions will be back in action next week when they travel to Springfield to compete in the Drury Invitational on October 1 and 2. |
