Lions sign Webb City golfer

JOPLIN, Mo.
- Missouri Southern golf coach Kevin Greim has announced the signing of Webb City High School golfer Seve Smith to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play golf beginning in the fall of 2007.

Smith is a four-time Missouri State Qualifier for Webb City and was coached by his father, Wayne. A two-time All-State selection, Smith finished second in the state tournament in 2006, and was the 2005 Southwest Conference Champion as a sophomore. He helped the Cardinals to a third place finish this year at the State Tournament.

"Seve is a very good player right now, but his potential is tremendous. He loves the game and pays more attention to the details of golf than almost any kid I've been around. He's got the talent and work ethic to be an impact player. We lost three very good seniors and have replaced them with four freshman, so you never know how they will react to playing in college. But I believe that this signing completes a pretty talented freshman class."

Both of Smith's parents, Wayne and Gay, were Southern graduates and teach at Webb City and Carl Junction High Schools, respectively. Smith's aunt, Georgina Garrison-Bodine was a 1997 inductee to the Missouri Southern Athletics Hall of Fame as a tennis player.

Smith completes a recruiting class for Greim that included Jared Essary, Jamie Voegeli and Justin Johnson.
