FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 24, 2007 Lions finish fourth at MIAA Golf Championship Complete Results Branson, Mo. - The Missouri Southern golf team improved its score by 15 strokes from day one, but fell just one stroke behind third place Missouri Western and finished fourth at the 2007 MIAA Golf Championship at Branson Creek Golf Course. Senior Tommy Clifford improved his day two score by six strokes and finished with a four-round score of 224, finishing just one stroke off of third place, tied for fifth. Eric Byers shot a 225 and was tied for seventh, while Tyler Goecker finished at 228, tied for 14th. Ben Perry finished tied for 27th with a 237, while Adam Nelson was 40th with a 248. Corey Clingan, playing as an individual, finished tied for 31st, improving his day two score by 14 strokes, to card a four-round 242. Washburn's Matt Ewald took home the individual title, finishing two strokes over his teammate, Matt Lazzo with a four-round 212. Central Missouri's Ty Needles and Washburn's Ryan Deutsch were tied for third at a 223, while Clifford and Missouri Western's Caleb Carter were tied at fifth with a 224. Washburn, perfect this season in MIAA events, won it's fifth MIAA Team Title in the last six years, defeating second place Central Missouri by 29 strokes. Missouri Western finished third and Southern trailed the Griffons by just one stroke. Truman State finished fifth. Clifford finished second in the MIAA Player of the Year points standings. Ewald took home the league's top honor this season. Southern will be back in action on May 7-9 when the Lions play host to the NCAA Division II Super Regional at Twin Hills Country Club. |
