FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two Lions on All-MIAA Golf Team
Askvik, Sinksen earn all-conference honor
Two Missouri Southern State University
juniors, Geir Askvik (Oslo, Norway) and Danny
Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D.),
were named to the All-MIAA Golf Team announced on Wednesday,
one day after the league crowned its 2004 champion.
Sinksen charted two top-10 finishes in MIAA
play this year, including a second-place tie at the Missouri
Southern Crossroads Invitational during the fall season. He
also tied for fourth at the Central Missouri State Heart of
America Classic last month. Sinksen led MSSU with a 74.4
strokes average in conference action this year and is averaging
76.5 strokes on the year. His best 18-hole score was a
three-under par 68 at the CMSU tourney.
It’s Sinksen’s second All-MIAA
honor of his career. He also earned all-conference accolades
following the 2001-02 season.
Askvik recorded three top-10 finishes in
conference-sanctioned tournaments this year, including a tie
for fourth at CMSU last month. He also placed seventh at Truman
and tied for ninth at the MSSU tournament. Askvik ended
conference play with an average of 75.6 strokes per round and
is averaging 77.2 for the season. His even-par round of 71 in
the opening round at Central marked his best 18-hole
performance of the year.
The All-MIAA team is selected based on a
point system determined by the players’ finish at the
five conference-sanctioned events played this season
–– two in the fall and three in the spring. The
lowest scorer in each meet is awarded 10 points, while the 10th
lowest is given one point. This is the eighth season the system
has been used to determine the honorees.
Missouri Southern finished second, just 3.5
points behind two-time champion Washburn, in the seasonal MIAA
standings, determined by the participating schools’
finishes at the conference events. The Lions placed fourth at
the MIAA Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. On Friday, the NCAA
Division II men’s golf national committee will announce
the participants for the Central/Great Lakes Super Regional, to
be held May 3-5 at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky.
