Golf Lions fifth at Northeastern State Classic MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Led by a 288 in Monday's second round, the Missouri Southern State University men's golf team placed fifth on Tuesday at the 14-team Northeastern State (Okla.) Classic. Southern finished four strokes behind fourth-place Drury after shooting an 884 (298-288-298) in the tournament, held at the par 71 Muskogee Country Club. Two senior Lions finished in the tournament's top 20. Danny Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tied for eighth overall with his score of 218, which included a 68 in the second round. Travis Stockholm (Springfield, S.D.) tied for 18th with a 222. Other scores for Southern included freshman Ben Perry (Lee's Summit, Mo.) with a 224, Geir Askvik (Oslo, Norway) 225 and Andrew Koehler (Superior, Wis.) 226. Nick Marks (Pryor, Okla.) played as an individual in the tournament and finished with a 246. Northeastern State won the tournament by 22 strokes over second-place St. Mary's (Texas). St. Edward's (Texas) was third, four strokes out of second place. West Texas A&M placed sixth in the tournament, six strokes behind the Lions. The Lions continue their fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 4-5) at the Drury University Fall Classic in Springfield. The fall season wraps up on Oct. 11-12 at the second MIAA points event of the fall, the Pittsburg State University Classic. |
