Golf Lions finish second at Truman Bulldog Classic
Askvik places seventh to lead Southern in first MIAA tourney

Missouri Southern, led by Geir Askvik (Oslo, Norway/Dodge City CC)’s 148, rallied on Tuesdayy for a runner-up finish at the Truman Bulldog Classic, the first Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association santioned event of the fall.

Askvik, a junior, carded 74 on both days of the tournament to place seventh individually in the tournament at the par-71, 6,418-yard Kirksville Country Club course. Central Missouri State capitalizing on rough second day by first-round leader Washburn, captured the team title by finishing with a 583 (292-291). Washburn opened with a 290 in Monday’s round but shot 308 on Day 2 to finish third with a 598, one stroke back of Southern (296-301).

Junior Travis Stockholm (Springfield, S.D./Paris JC) tied for eighth and was one stroke back of Askvik with a 149 (72-77). Junior Danny Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt HS) tied for 11th with 150 (75-75).

Junior Andrew Koehler (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) shot 151 (76-75) to tie for 14th and Andrew Watts (Carthage, Mo./Carthage HS) rounded out the Lions’ contingent with a 156 (75-81).

Winona State (Minn.) and Truman completed the top five with scores of 600 and 617, respectively.

The Lions are slated to continue their fall schedule on Sept. 29 at the Northeastern State (Okla.) Classic, which will be played in Muskogee.
