Men’s Golf takes top spot at NEO
Tourney
Stockholm leads Southern with 147
The Missouri Southern men’s golf team
opened its fall season on Monday with a 37-stroke victory at
the Norsemen Invitational, hosted by Northeastern Oklahoma
A&M College.
Southern shot a 594 total and won the
tournament with four players in the top five. The other player
in the top five was also from Missouri Southern, but was
playing as an individual. The Lions shot 594 (298-296) for the
win. NEO was second with a team score of 631.
Junior transfer Travis
Stockholm (Springfield, S.D./Paris CC) captured medalist honors for the tournament as he
carded a 147 (70-77) to win by one stroke over teammates Andrew Watts (Carthage, Mo.), senior, and Kellen
Bollinger (Cassville, Mo.),
sophomore. Watts opened with a 75 and finished with a 73.
Bollinger, who also shot 75-73, played in the tourney as an
individual.
Junior Danny
Sinksen (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt HS) was fourth overall with a score of 149 (76-73). Junior
transfer Geir Askvik (Oslo,
Norway/Dodge City CC) was fifth
with a card of 150 (77-73).
Sophomore Nick
Marks (Pryor, Okla.) rounded out the
Lions in the tournament. He finished with 164 (85-79).
Southwest Baptist finished with a 640 and
Oklahoma Wesleyan carded 685. Haskell and Southwestern
Christian also had golfers competing in the tournament.
Southern is scheduled to resume play in the
fall portion of its schedule on Monday at the Truman State Fall
Classic in Kirksville, Mo. That’s the first Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association sanctioned event of the
2003-04 season.
