FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 17, 2008
Nationally ranked cross
country programs play host to 20th annual Southern Stampede With 67 high school and 40 collegiate teams running, the annual race has grown to be one of the largest in the country. This year, high school response has been so large, the high school races will now be split into two different divisions with two different races for each gender. The Southern programs are both ranked in the top 15 nationally, with the women posting a number nine national ranking and the men coming in ranked 14th. The women are the top ranked team in the South Central region, while the men hold tight to the second spot, behind number one ranked Abilene Christian. The men's race will feature three nationally ranked programs as Harding (third) and Drury (18th) join Southern (14th). The women's race will see three ranked schools, as well, as Southern (9th) is joined by Harding (12th) and Pitt State (17th). The Southern cross country programs are teaming up with the Southwest Missouri Special Olympics this year in a partnership of the event. Half of the admission gate collected this Saturday will go directly to the Special Olympics and the Southwest Missouri Chapter will receive a check at halftime of the Southern/Nebraska - Omaha football game later that evening. Below is a schedule of the day's events. Results will be online as they become available by clicking on this link. RACE SCHEDULE |
