Lions finish 11th at Oklahoma State Jamboree

Stillwater, Okla. -- Both the men's and women's cross
country programs finished 11th today at the Oklahoma State
University Jamboree in Stillwater.
Southern junior Kimi Shank
(Rolla, Mo.) finished 11th and was the top division II runner in
the race. She covered the 6k race with a time of 21:38. Kara
Eckard (Warrensburg, Mo.) was 54th at 22:50, while Ashley Bunch
(Loose Creek, Mo.) finished with a time of 23:38. Kari Fritchie
(Lee's Summit, Mo.) ran a 23:43, while Victoria Kline (Miami,
Okla.) finished in 23:57. Olga Bulgarova (Jefferson City, Mo.)
finished in 24:19, while Silvia Pineda (Monett, Mo.) finished in
24:37.
The Southern women finished 11th
as a team and were the top scoring division II team, finishing
in front of eight Division I schools including Texas Christian,
Saint Louis, Oral Roberts and Texas Tech.
The Lions men finished 11th, as
well, as a team, led by junior Brennan Benkert's 46th place
finish. He covered the 8k race in a time of 25:51. Freshman
Jarkko Jarvenpaa (Tampere, Finland) finished in 26:00, while
fellow Fin Aki Nummela (Helsinki, Finland) finished in 26:11.
Freshman Derek Mendell (Carthage, Mo) ran a 27:10, while Shawn
Goebel (Washington, Mo.) finished in 27:35. Deric Kimery
finished with a time of 28:35.
Both teams will be back in action
next week as they travel to Edwardsville, Illinois to compete in
the Missouri/Illinois Border Wars. |
