Lions finish fifth at Central Missouri

Warrensburg, Mo. --
The Missouri Southern men's cross country team finished fifth today at a rain-soaked Mule Run hosted by the University of Central Missouri at Pertle Springs.

The Lions, who held out two of their top runners in Dustin Dixon and Jarkko Jarvenpaa, saw both Brennan Benkert and Aki Nummela finish in the top 15. Benkert was ninth with a time of 21:25.40 in the four mile race, while Nummela was 13th with a finish of 21:34.63.

Freshman Derek Mendell was 25th, while Shawn Goebel, Chris Bell and Derick Kimrey were 53rd, 63rd, and 64th, respectively. A total of 167 runners took place in the event.

The Lions will be back in action next Saturday, when Southern plays host to the Southern Stampede.
