Arkansas Men, Tulsa women capture 2007 Missouri Southern Stampede

Sophomore Kimi Shank finished third for the second straight week, while Dustin Dixon was 13th in the men's race as both the Missouri Southern Men's and Women's Cross Country teams finished second at the 2007 Missouri Southern Stampede at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

Shank and the women had a strong showing with two in the top 20 as Kara Eckard finished 16th. Courtney Waltbillig and Ashley Bunch were 30th and 34th, while Taylor Whitacre finished 39th to help the women to a strong second place finish, just an average of three minutes behind the University of Tulsa. Alison Walker and Kari Fritchie both finished 46th and 48th, respectively.

Tulsa won the team title for the women. Southern, ranked 21st coming into the meet, was second, followed by 13th ranked UC-San Diego. 14th ranked Pittsburg State, and 23rd ranked Southwest Baptist. Oral Roberts, Dallas Baptist, Mid-America Nazarene, Park and Central Oklahoma round out the top ten women's teams.

Tulsa's Alex Baker was the women's individual champion covering the 5k course with a time of 16:33.00. Faithy Kamangila of Oral Roberts finished second with a time of 17:16, while Shank finished third with a time of 17:34. Mable Kunihira of Oral Roberts was fourth and Marissa Saunders of Tulsa finished fifth. 

The University of Arkansas swept the top three men's individual spots as Scott MacPherson, Tyler Hill and Shawn Forrest finished 1-3. MacPherson was second in last year's Stampede. Mid-America Nazarene's Noah Too was fourth followed by Matt Munoz from Arkansas to round out the top five.

Dixon placed 13th with a time of 24:59 and was followed by Isaac Garcia who was 16th at 25:02. Dustin Miller finished 28th with a time of 25:23, while Ryan Arthur and Kyle Davis were 39th and 47th, respectively. Anthony Reed finished the 8k course in a time of 27:45.

Arkansas placed all five scorers in the top 11, to win the team title over Southern. The 18th ranked Lions were second with an overall time of 2:06:52, while Missouri - Rolla, Northern Kentucky and Lindenwood round out the top five men's schools. Tulsa, Pittsburg State, 22nd ranked Southwest Baptist, 25th ranked Drury, and Mid-America Nazarene were 6-10th.

The men and women will both be off next week, but will travel to big events on September 29th, as the men head to Oklahoma State for the Jamboree and the women head to Chicago for the Loyolla Lakefront Invitational.
