Cross Country jumps into top 25

Joplin, MO -- After a fourth place showing at the
Southern Stampede, in which the Missouri Southern men's cross
country team finished behind only division I Arkansas, as well
as Southwest Baptist and Harding, the Lions have jumped into the
top 25 of the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association national poll, debuting at No. 23.
Southern also moved to third in
the South Central Region poll, behind only Abilene Christian and
Southwest Baptist.
Head coach Tom Rutledge said he
extremely proud of his team and he hopes this is just a sign of
things to come.
"I am very humbled that my fellow
coaches would vote us in," he said. "Every year, we have
aspirations of being a very competitive, nationally recognized
program and this is a first step. I think our team will take
anything we can get, but we all goals of accomplishing even
more.
Southern will have this weekend
off, but will travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 30 to
take part in the Oklahoma State University Jamboree.
