Reisner, Koehler named MIAA Athletes of the Week

Missouri Southern State University seniors Tera Reisner (San Angelo, Texas) and Paul Koehler (St. Louis, Mo.) were named Wilson/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Athletes of the Week on Tuesday for their roles with the Lions last week.

Reisner, a 5-foot-1 forward on the women’s soccer team, scored two goals and had an assist as Missouri Southern went 2-0 with victories over Central Missouri State and Emporia State last week.

On Friday at CMSU, Reisner scored the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute of a 3-1 victory over the Jennies. She also assisted on Southern’s first goal of the day, which came just 3:26 into the contest.

In Sunday’s win over Emporia State, the No. 7-ranked team in the Central Region according to last week’s poll, Reisner tied the Southern single-season record with her sixth game-winning goal. It came in the 32nd minute off a deflection of a ball hit by freshman Lauren Kurelac (Blue Springs, Mo.) in a 2-1 triumph over the Hornets.

The win over ESU put the Lions alone in third place in the current MIAA standings, just three points out of first place.

Reisner, who scored 13 goals last year, currently leads the 2004 Lions in goals (9) and assists (5). She ranks second in MSSU history with 22 career goals and 51 career points.

She is a graduate of Lake View High School and transferred to Southern from Lee’s McRae (N.C.) College.

Koehler, a 6-foot and 140 pound senior, was the top overall finisher on Saturday at the MIAA Cross Country Championships in Maryville, Mo. Koehler finished the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 24.8 seconds helping the Lions to a fourth-place finish at the conference meet.

He led a 1-2 finish for the Southern contingent, as classmate Craig Rhoads (West Plains, Mo.) finished second overall. Koehler finished almost four seconds ahead of Rhoads, who was 15 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.

It marked the third All-MIAA showing for Koehler, who placed seventh in the MIAA as a freshman and sixth last year.

Koehler became the fourth Missouri Southern male to win the individual title at the conference meet, joining Jason Riddle (1991), Petri Kykyri (2000) and Brian Lyons (2002).
