FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 29, 2008 Lions fall 105-65 at third ranked SBU Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Missouri Southern basketball team fell 105-65 tonight at third ranked Southwest Baptist in front of more than 2,600 fans in a sold out Meyer Sports Center. Southern (12-1, 2-1 MIAA) scored the game's first points as Skyler Bowlin hit a three pointer just 38 seconds into the contest. SBU (10-0, 2-1 MIAA) then went on a 10-0 run capped off by a three from D'Ante Harris at the 15 minute mark. The Lions cut the Bearcat lead to just three (21-18) after two free-throws from Bowlin at the seven-minute mark. The Bearcat lead was back to ten (31-21) at the four minute mark, and from that point on, SBU went on an 18-6 run to end the half, up 49-27 going into the locker room. The Bearcats shot 53 percent from the field in the half and 47 percent from long range, hitting 8-17 from behind the arc. Harris led all scorers with 10 points at the break, while Vincent Ateba scored seven points for the Lions. SBU kept it going, and after a three from from Brandon Clemmons at the 13 minute mark, the Bearcats led 72-35, starting the second half on a 23-8 run. The lead was as high as 41 after a layup from Johnie Harris made the score 87-46 with 8:45 left in the game. Keane Thoman led the Lions in scoring with 10 points off the bench on 4-5 shooting from the field. The ten points are a career-high for the freshman. Ateba and DaRell Crittendon both had nine points, while Jason Adams chipped in with nine himself. The Lions shot 35 percent from the field, while SBU shot 57 percent. Four different Bearcats scored in double-figures. The 105 points are the most Southern has given up since the 2006-07 season when Emporia State scored 105 at home against the Lions. Southern will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a 3 pm tip against Missouri Western at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. |
