Lions' Ateba named MIAA Player of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. - After helping the Lions to a perfect 4-0 start, senior forward Vincent Ateba has been named the MIAA's Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Ateba, a 6-4 forward from Orleans, France, has helped the Lions start the season 4-0 for the third straight year. Southern is out scoring its opponents by a margin 26.5 points per game and Ateba has been an integral part to that stat.

Ateba leads the MIAA in scoring at 19.3 points per contest and is ranked sixth in rebounding with 7.5 boards per contest. He's shooting 63 percent from the floor and has a 12-4 assist to turnover ratio, which is good enough for fifth in the MIAA.

Vince has twice tied a career-high in scoring this season, with 24 point performances in the Lions' opening 87-64 win over Newman and this past weekend in the Lions 82-59 win over Lincoln University.

The Lions stand atop the MIAA standings as one of only three teams that are 4-0 in the early season. Southern will play host to Northeastern State Tuesday, November 25 at 7 pm in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
