Lions fall 87-58 in Exhibition Action at Division I Missouri

The Missouri Tigers went on a 7-2 run to end the first half and scored the first 12 points of the second half en route to a 87-58 victory over visiting Missouri Southern tonight at Mizzou Arena.

Missouri opened up the game on a 9-0 run before a three from Southern's DaRell Crittendon got the Lions on the board. A layup from Crittendon cut the Tigers' lead to seven at 16-9 with 14 minutes to play in the half.

Missouri ran its lead to 17 twice, the last at 39-22 with four minutes to play in the half. A layup from Jason Adams and a three from Skyler Bowlin cut the lead to 39-27 and the Lions got as close as ten after four free throws from Vincent Ateba and Matt Monroe, trailing 41-31 with just under three minutes to go in the half. The Tigres closed the half on a 7-2 run and led 48-33 at the break.

Crittendon started fast, scoring seven points on 3-3 shooting from the field, but picked up three quick fouls and spent most of the first half on the bench. Bowlin led the Lions with ten first-half points, while Monroe and Ateba both added four points and four rebounds each.

Mizzou started the second half on a 12-0 run and pushed its lead to 60-33, before a layup from Ateba stopped the Tiger rally. A put back from Crittendon and a layup from Monroe cut the Tiger lead to 73-46 with eight minutes left.

The Tigers out scored the Lions 14-13 over the final eight minutes.

Bowlin and Crittendon led the Lions with 12 points each. Ateba scored ten and pulled down seven rebounds, while Monroe had seven points and seven boards. Adams finished with eight points on 4-8 shooting.

The Lions will open up their regular season at home this Saturday night playing host to Newman University at 7 pm.
