Box Score

Maryville, Mo.
- Northwest Missouri's Hunter Henry drained two free-throws with 2.5 seconds left on the clock and the Missouri Southern basketball team fell in a heartbreaker to the Bearcats, 72-70 tonight in Maryville.

A tip-in from Jason Adams tied the game for the 12th time with 23 seconds left on the clock. Northwest (8-9, 3-7 MIAA) then took the inbounds pass and gave the ball to Henry who was fouled going to the basket, giving the senior a chance to win the game with two free-throws.

Southern (15-5, 5-5 MIAA) had four players in double-figures led by Skyler Bowlin with 20 points and five assists on 6-10 shooting from the field. Vincent Ateba went 7-11 from the field and scored 18 points with six rebounds and three steals. Mariun Price scored 14, while Adams had 10 points off the bench.

Henry led the Bearcats in scoring with 23 points and four assists. Northwest shot 55 percent from the field, while the Lions shot 47 percent.

Southern started the game strong, leading 12-4 after a three from Adams five minutes into the game. The Bearcats, however, went on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes, capped off by a layup from Mike Larsen to tie the game at 12. Both teams traded leads before a jumper from Henry with two minutes left in the half gave Northwest a lead they'd hold into the break.

The Bearcats opened up an eight point second half lead at the 18:21 mark, before Price went on a 7-0 run on his own to tie the game for the eighth time at 43 at 17:20. The game was tied four more times, the last with 23 seconds left, but Henry's two freebies gave the Bearcats the win.

The Lions forced 15 turnovers, scoring 18 points off the miscues and added 11 steals.

Southern will be back in action this Saturday, January 24 when the Lions play host to Truman State at 3 pm in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The Lions defeated Truman 65-56 in both team's MIAA opener earlier in the year at Kirksville.
