Bowlin scores 21 in 74-64 loss at Nebraska-Omaha

- The 13th ranked Missouri Southern basketball team went cold from behind the arc, hitting just 4-22 from long range, and fell on the road tonight, 74-64 at Nebraska-Omaha.

Southern (15-4, 5-4 MIAA) was led by 21 points from Skyler Bowlin on 6-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. Vincent Ateba had nine points and 12 rebounds, while Jason Adams scored nine off the bench. Both teams had 41 rebounds and the Lions forced 19 turnovers, scoring 24 points off the miscues.

UNO (12-4, 6-3 MIAA) went a game in front of the Lions in MIAA play and is tied for third place with Central Missouri in the league. The Mavericks were led in scoring by 27 points from Michael Jenkins on 5-12 shooting from the field, 3-4 from long range and 14-15 from the charity stripe. Jenkins missed his first free-throw of the night, but made the next 14 in the row.

The Lions opened the game with a three from Bowlin and led by four (19-15) after a free throw from Keane Thomann with 8:23 left to go in the first half. A pair of free-throws from Jenkins gave UNO a 20-19 lead a minute later and another pair of freebies from Jenkins with 5:34 left in the half gave the Mavs a lead they wouldn't give up.

UNO led by ten at halftime and by as many as 11 in the second half, the last time coming at 49-38 with 13:30 left in the game. The Lions got as close as three after a pair of free-throws from Bowlin made the score 56-53 with 6:17 left.

Just four of UNO's 74 points tonight came off the bench and the game was tied six times with three lead changes.

The Lions stay on the road with a Wednesday night game on January 21 at Northwest Missouri. Tip off is slated for 7:30 pm from Maryville.
