FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 5, 2007 Lions force 29 turnovers and defeat Bacone, 89-63 Box Score Joplin, Mo. - Tony Webb scored a career high 26 points and stole the ball four times as the Missouri Southern basketball team used their defensive pressure to perfection tonight, forcing 29 turnovers in an 89-63 win over visiting Bacone College. Southern (6-2) fell down early and trailed by three just over a minute into the game, but a layup from Webb gave the Lions a quick 8-7 advantage at the 16 minute mark. A three from Bacone's (3-5) Andrew Hamilton pushed the Warriors back in front briefly at 18-17, but a layup on the next trip down the court for Kyle Schrage gave the Lions a 19-18 lead which they would not relinquish. The Lions lead grew to 13 after a jumper from Webb with three minutes left and Southern went into the locker room up 42-33. A three pointer from Matt Monroe with 11 minutes to go in the game gave the Lions a 23 point lead (67-44). The lead grew to as high as 34 after a three from Webb made the score 82-48. Webb led three Lions in double figures with 26 points. He added four assists and four steals, and shot 10-16 from the field and 4-6 from long range. Vincent Ateba had 12 points on 4-9 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. Octavius Hawkins had 11 points in 16 minutes tonight. Monroe finished with six points and a game high nine boards. Bacone's Ronnie Battle led the Warriors with 31 points on 12-17 shooting. The next highest scorer had eight points. Southern will now prepare for a road matchup with the Newman Jets on December 17. Newman won on the road tonight, defeating seventh ranked Emporia State tonight, 93-89 in overtime.
