Box Score

Joplin, Mo. -
The Missouri Southern basketball team opened up a 20-2 lead just four minutes into the game and forced 33 turnovers in a 96-71 win over Mid-American Christian in the final game of the Freeman Sports Medicine/Chris Tucker Memorial Classic today at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Southern (5-0) went up 2-0 before the opening tip ever happened as MACU was whistled for a pre-game technical foul and Skyler Bowlin drained the two free throws. The Lions led 25-7 at the 11 minute mark of the first half, but a 20-6 run for MACU (4-5) cut the lead to four at 31-27 with 3:53 left. The Lions turned around and responded with a 14-4 run to end the half up, 45-31.

Kyle Schrage stole the ball at mid court and drove the length to dunk the ball and put the Lions up by 27 (61-34) at the 11 minute mark. A couple of free throws from Schrage put the Lions up by 31, the largest lead of the game with 5:56 left in the game.

Southern forced 33 turnovers and stole the ball 14 times as the defense shined for the second-straight night. The Lions led from start to finish and are 5-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season when the team went to the Elite 8 and finished the season 30-3.

Vincent Ateba went 8-12 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line, scoring 21 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Four other Lions scored in double figures led by 17 points from freshman point guard Skyler Bowlin. Bowlin went 4-7 from the field, 3-6 from long range and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. He added four assists and three steals.

Tony Webb scored 17 points with seven assists and two steals, while TJ Britton and Schrage each had 11 points.

The Lions will now head to Tahlequah, Okla. on Tuesday, November 27 to take on the Riverhawks of Northeastern State in a 7 pm tipoff.
