Box Score

Joplin, Mo. -
The Missouri Southern defense forced 38 turnovers and stole the ball 27 times, setting a new school record, as Tony Webb scored 22 to lead the Lions to an 86-43 win over visiting Central Bible tonight at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Southern (3-0) jumped ahead 8-7 on a free throw from Webb with just under 16 minutes to go. The Lions would lead from that point on. Southern pushed the lead to 19 at the nine minute mark on a three from Mark Dannenmueller. The lead would be 24 (41-17) with just under four minutes to go in the half after a Skyler Bowlin layup.

A jumper from Webb gave the Lions a 30 point lead (47-17) at the two minute mark, but a layup from the Spartans' (3-5) Cameron Tilus made the halftime score 47-19.

The Lions led by 40 on five different occasions in the second half, before pushing the deficit to 45 after a three pointer from TJ Williams with three minutes to go.

Webb led all scorers with 22 points. He added four rebounds and was 9-11 from the field. Octavius Hawkins was the only other Lion in double figures with 13 points and four boards. Bowlin had seven points, eight assists and six steals, while both Vincent Ateba and Dannenmueller scored eight points each.

The Lions shot 59 percent for the second straight game and had a school record 27 steals. The previous record was 26 set in 1998 against Ozark Christian.

Southern will now head back home to play host to the Freeman Sports Medicine/Chris Tucker Memorial Classic. Pittsburg State, Maryville University and Mid-American Christian will head to the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center this Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24. The Lions will face off with Maryville at 7 pm on Friday and then take on Mid-American Christian at 7 pm on Saturday.
