FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 17, 2007 Ateba nearly perfect in Lions' 109-83 victory over Robert Morris Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. - Missouri Southern junior forward Vincent Ateba went 11-12 from the field and had 11 rebounds and 24 points, as the Lions defeated Robert Morris in the team's final game of the Pittsburg State/Pepsi Classic today in John Lance Arena. Southern (2-0) took a one point lead at 16-15 with just under 13 minutes in the first half after a jumper from Tony Webb. The Lions led from that point on as the lead was 14 with just under two minutes after a jumper from Stanley Titsworth. Robert Morris (2-3) got a bucket back on a layup from Kari Coleman and the Lions led by 10 (48-38) at the half. The Lions led by eight after a three from Titsworth with 7:48 left in the second half. Southern then went on a 22-8 run over the next four minutes to go up by 19, 97-76. Another layup from Webb pushed the lead to 23 and gave the Lions their first triple digit score of the year, leading 101-78. A layup from Brandon Smith with 11 seconds remaining, gave the Lions 109 points. Southern scored 61 points in the second half and shot 59 percent from the field in the game. Ateba led all scorers with 24 points. Webb and Titsworth both had 19 points with Titsworth pulling down five boards. Octavius Hawkins ahd 15 points and eight rebounds. Skyler Bowlin had eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Lions out rebounded Robert Morris 38-19 and outscored the Eagles 66-32 in the paint. Southern shot 82 percent from the free-throw line. The Lions will now head back home to play host to the Freeman Sports Medicine/Chris Tucker Memorial Classic. Pittsburg State, Maryville University and Mid-American Christian will head to the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center next Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24. The Lions will face off with Maryville at 7 pm on Friday and then take on Mid-American Christian at 7 pm on Saturday. |
