Lions add Illinois prep guard to list of 2008 recruits

Joplin, Mo. -
Missouri Southern basketball coach Robert Corn has announced that Travis Jones will attend Southern and play basketball for the Lions beginning in the fall of 2008.

Jones, a 6-4 195 pound guard, will graduate from White County High School in Carmi, Illinois this May. A two-year starter and four-year letter winner for coach Jarrod Newell, Jones was a first-team All-Conference selection his junior and senior seasons. He averaged 21.2 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals a game as a senior.

He holds the White County HS records for most games played (110) and three pointers made in a career (149), as well as the most consecutive free throws made in a game (17). He is the school's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,359 career points, and is sixth on the school's list for points in a season with 594. He has scored 20 points in a game 27 times over his career, good enough for third all-time in the history of his school.

"We think its great to have Travis as a member of our program," said Corn. "One area of improvement that we wanted to target this off season was three point shooting and Travis is an excellent long range shooter. We really believe he has a chance to develop more and be a very good player for our program."

Jones is the son of Bob and Shelly Jones and plans on majoring in kinesiology at Southern.
